Math competitions

Quite a lot of students in our school think math is a nice subject. Every year a hundred of our students participate in the first round of the Dutch Mathematics Olympiad. Then they try to crack as much as possible, say brain breakers. And often successful. Seven times, students from the Lorentz Casimir Lyceum have won the school classification of the Mathematics Olympiad. No other school in the Netherlands is anywhere near this!

You can also join us at school for example in the Kangaroo competition, which you may know from primary school. In a team, our students participate in the UnderbouwMathematicsDay and in the upper school at the Mathematics A-lympiad and the Mathematics B-day. On these days, a whole day of project work is carried out in teams of four students, addressing an open problem, often around a current social theme, from a mathematical perspective.

Sometimes a student or a team of our school does so well that they are invited to math events abroad. One of our students was in both Slovenia and Japan for an international mathematics competition in 2023. In the last ten years, LCL students have also participated four times with a team in the biennial Singapore International Mathematics Challenge.
