Vwo is the abbreviation that stands for preparatory scientific education. Within the vwo there is an atheneum and a gymnasium department. The difference between them consists of the classical languages, which are not offered at the atheneum.
If you have a vwo recommendation, you can start in the atheneum bridge class. If you have a havo/vwo recommendation and you are not yet sure whether the atheneum is the right choice for you, you can start in the two-year havo/vwo bridge class. Classes start at havo level and gradually build up to vwo level. So after the first bridge year you don't have to choose 2 havo or 2 vwo, but have another year to find out what you have to offer. After the 2nd bridge year you continue in 3 havo or 3 vwo.
Besides our havo and gymnasium we have a nice atheneum program. As you can read on this page, atheneum allows you to choose many different subjects. We are proud of our atheneum department with good results, many inspired teachers with all a 1st or 2nd degree. We currently have all vacancies filled, so there are few classes cancelled. There are also many fun activities, for example the sports interlyceal and artistic internlyceal between different lyceums in the Netherlands.
Are you a student interested in mathematics? Then it is good for you to know that at the Lorentz Casimir Lyceum special attention is paid to the exact, mathematical subjects, such as mathematics A/B, mathematics D, physics, chemistry, computer science.
Students with a nature profile (nature & technology, nature & health) follow in the fifth year the extra subject Science-quest (in the chemistry classes). Science-quest is a simplified form of science philosophy and tests from the science subjects.
We provide additional challenge and guidance for these students in both the lower and upper grades. We assist students with their executive functions, such as "learning to learn" and self-direction so that students have adequate learning and work habits.
From the fourth year you start within your chosen profile. Our school counselor helps you with your orientation on study and profession. This orientation begins in grade 3 and enables you to make a responsible choice: both for the profile and the subsequent course. The subject package depends on the choice of profile. After the profile choices, you will again enter newly composed classes. We therefore find it important that you get to know each other well during an introduction day in Aquabest. This will take place on a Friday in the first weeks of school.
At our school, the individual talent development of our students is central. That is why we participate in olympiads: national competitions for havo and vwo students in areas such as chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and geography. Students who participate in these competitions are given the opportunity to study the subject in question in extra depth. They can then express their talents in the olympiad and advance one round at a time.
The Lorentz Casimir Lyceum is an Olympiad school and has the Olympiad seal of approval. This shows that the olympiads at our school are widely supported and not dependent on one teacher.
Did you know that at our school you can have an extra language put on your diploma? You then do not take the classes at the Lorentz Casimir Lyceum, but we do facilitate the possibility that it will eventually be a mark on your diploma. Think Spanish, Italian, Russian, Polish.
