With us you can start from the seventh grade in a gymnasium bridge class. You then immediately start with the classical language Latin and get lessons at a challenging level. It's nice to start directly in the right profile so you can develop well from the start. Every year we start several gymnasium bridges at once, so you always sit with other students who make the same choice.
We have many years of experience in gymnasium education and see how well it suits students who are curious, like to think further and keep deepening.
The origins of Europe lie in Greece and Italy. When discovering the culture of the Greeks and the Romans, you notice that a new world opens to you. Things that you have taken for granted so far are in a very different light. The Greeks and the Romans have left a great heritage to the present inhabitants of Europe.
In the seventh grade of the gymnasium you will meet gods like Aphrodite, Jupiter, Mars, Juno and Hades. You learn about the hero Hercules and you already read in Latin about Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. You hear beautiful and moving stories and you discover how the Romans and the Greeks built temples for their gods. In addition, you will see that many modern buildings still have characteristics of their Roman and Greek predecessors. In addition to culture, you also learn the language of the Romans, Latin, in the gymnasium bridge class.
You want more challenge than you're getting in elementary school right now? Or maybe you're gifted? Do you like getting time to study your own interests and questions in your own way? Do you like being in class with other kids who, like you, need some extras at school? Then Gymnasium Plus is for you!
The teachers teaching this class go through the ordinary subject a little faster. This creates time to explore questions that interest you through research with classmates. There are also several nice excursions on the program. You get a mentor who knows a lot about your development, who can support you in your learning process and guide you on a social emotional level. To make sure you're in the right place, make the Intelligence Structure Test (IST) free of charge at our school before applying. You can subscribe to the IST below. The test will be conducted on Wednesday 21 February 2024. You can make it in the morning or in the afternoon.
Do you have any questions?
Set them on our Open Day, on 27 January 2024 or come to the information evening gymnasium on 7 February 2024 from 19.00 to 20.30.
In the second year of school you also get Greek as well as Latin. For the superstructure, students choose at least one classical language to complete their secondary school exams with the predicate "Gymnasium .
Classical cultural education is interwoven in our Latin and Greek courses. This way you do not have to follow the CKV box in the upper building.
Are you interested in math as a student? Then it is good for you to know that the Lorentz Casimir Lyceum pays special attention to the exact, mathematical subjects, such as mathematics A/B, mathematics D, physics, chemistry, computer science.
In the fifth year, students with a nature profile (nature & technology, nature & health) will take the extra course Science-quest (in chemistry lessons). Science quest is a simplified form of science philosophy and experiments from the science subjects.
At the LCL we offer extra challenge for students who can handle more. You can do that via gymnasium plus or through BrainSport Junior.
GymnasiumPlus is the most comprehensive program. You get extra challenge within your courses: teachers make the teaching material more compact and use that time for flooring. In addition, you get additional parts such as Big History, MathematicsPlus, philosophy and Programming & Design.
Besides gymnasiumPlus there is BrainSport Junior. This is a lighter variant. You're in an ordinary atheneum or gymnasium class, but you come together every week two classes with all the BrainSport Junior students from your year. In those hours, you work on Big History projects. Through the school year you do several projects, each with another teacher.
You will be selected for BrainSport Junior in seventh grade by creating the IST (Intelligence Structure Test) of the CBO.
Students of gymnasiumPlus and BrainSport Junior are both offered Big History projects. There is also an excursion in the area every year that connects to a Big History project. In addition, every year there is the festive Big History day, on which BrainSport Junior and gymnasiumPlus (class 1 and 2) together have an adventurous day.
In gymnasiumPlus, Big History projects offered by your own professional teachers, within the curriculum of their courses.
At BrainSport Junior, you miss two lessons from your regular schedule every week to work on Big History. The roster maker determines which lessons they are and tries to alternate in them. BrainSport Junior is only about Big History; You don't get any MathematicsPlus, philosophy and Programming & Design.
Our school focuses on the individual talent development of our students. That is why we participate in olympiads: national competitions for havo- and vwo-schollen in the fields of chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and geography. Students taking part in the course will be given the opportunity to study the subject in greater depth. Then they can spread their talents in the olympiad and continue a round.
Lorentz Casimir Lyceum is an Olympiad school and has the Olympiad brand. This shows that the Olympics at our school are widely worn and not dependent on one teacher.
Did you know that at our school you can have an extra language put on your diploma? You may not follow the lessons at the Lorentz Casimir Lyceum, but we do facilitate the possibility that it will eventually be a grade on your diploma. Think Spanish, Italian, Russian, Polish.
