Last week our students from H4, V4, V5 and part of V6 went on a trip abroad. A week many had long awaited — full of new impressions, discoveries and unforgettable moments. Together with their teachers, the students went to six beautiful European destinations to learn, to experience and of course to enjoy. The groups travelled to Athens, Budapest, Berlin, London, Prague and Krakow. Each of these cities offered its own atmosphere, theme and program, carefully composed to offer students a mix of culture, history, movement and relaxation.
In Athens classical antiquity was central, with visits to the Acropolis, Delphi and the National Archaeological Museum. Students discovered where the history of Europe began and enjoyed the vibrant Greek atmosphere. In Budapest they learned more about Hungarian culture, visited the imposing parliament and relaxed in the Szécheny bathhouse. The city offered a nice mix of impressive history and cozy moments on the Danube.
The trip to Berlin had a strong historical character: from a visit to former concentration camp Sachsenhausen to the remnants of the Berlin Wall. Students gained a better picture of recent European history and its impact on the present. In London variety was central: world famous museums, a river cruise over the Thames and an evening of entertainment at a musical. A nice balance between learning and experiencing.
The students in Prague discovered the city by bike and search trips, visited the Prague Castle and dived into the history of Theresienstadt. There was also room for collaboration during "Mission Prague," where teams performed assignments in the city. The group in Krakow received impressive insights during the visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau and then discovered the lively culture of the city with bicycle tours, a visit to the salt mines of Wieliczka and time for relaxation.
It was a week in which learning, adventure and pleasure went hand in hand. Students not only learned about other countries and cultures, but also much about themselves and each other. They returned with stories, friendships and memories that will linger for a long time. The foreign trips are a highlight every year within our school year — An experience that shows that learning goes beyond class. Because you also learn by moving into the world together.
