On 21 August 2024 we received our students for the first time in our new building. It was a special moment. After 15 months of hard work on our new building, it was finally time.
At the end of April 2023 the first kick went to the ground and 15 months later our students start their first day of class in the new building. This new building was placed right behind the old building. Last summer the old building was completely demolished and all the debris was taken away.
Our new building is modern, open and bright. It has several workspaces, a sciencelab and studios. All this to give students the opportunity to start working independently or in groups with fun challenges.
The building is built energy efficient, with many circular materials and as low as possible emissions of nitrogen and CO2. This leaves the building as small a footprint as possible during construction, but also in the following years. The building covers 7.880 m2 in floor area (excluding the three gymnasiums and sports fields). The rooms where the lessons take place are clustered in five departments (language, sport, binask, job/business subjects, art subjects). The juniors have their own break space in the middle of the building. On the ground floor is the other auditorium with a large stage. The new building is visible from the Celebeslaan.
Since August 2024 we are in our beautiful new school building! As a junior, you start high school in a modern, spacious and bright building surrounded by greenery.
Like our previous building, this building is in the middle of greenery. We even planted additional trees to make the area even greener. The design ensures a strong connection between inside and outside, so you always look out for the green from the premises. Outside there are plenty of places to exercise, pause or take a walk. There is also a spacious, new bicycle storage, where all bicycles can be parked safely.
Welcome to our new school building!
Take a look at our new school
In the construction of our new school building, much attention has been paid to ecology and greenery. The building has been energy efficient, with reuse of materials and minimal emissions of nitrogen and CO2. In addition, it is sustainably designed, well ventilated, rich in daylight and (almost) energy neutral.
The new construction has been completed! Below you can still read back the latest updates about the construction process.
Since our new construction is a collaboration between many different organizations and bodies, a film has been made. This film has the theme of sustainability, circularity and collaboration.
Several people are interviewed, including our own Yvonne van Zijl, vice principal (new build).Last weeks, teachers and support staff received a tour of the new building. Each tour looked different again, because they work so hard. A look behind the scenes of the new building. View the daylight classrooms, the spacious auditorium and the huge gymnasiums. We can't wait to move in later!
During the spring holidays everything was broken down in the L and C building to move to the new building. Thus the climbing wall in the gym is disassembled and already mounted in the new building. And the balustrade in the C-aula has been dismantled and moved to the new building. For the coming months, a temporary balustrade is placed in our auditorium. The ceramic relief in C-hall has been disassembled with great effort and dust. Soon when placing it in the new building it will be a whole jigsaw puzzle, the artwork comes in stairwell. And last but not least, the mosaic artwork "Ruiters" in the L-hall has been an exciting job to disassemble, But fortunately it went well. The work of art consisted of an estimated 200 kg plates, which were also found to be attached to bolts. The artwork has already been placed in the auditorium of the new building. The dismantling and placing took 3 days.
We asked our students what they thought of the new building. Are you curious what they have to say? Then watch the video.
Construction is still on schedule. The roof is closed, the interior walls are almost all placed and people are busy building all the installations.
Despite the freezing and snow of the past week, we have not been idle. The construction is still in full swing, of course also in preparation for the open day of Saturday 27 January. Then future students from group 7&8 and their parents can take a look at the new building (under construction).
Next weeks the wallpaper and tiles will be started and the bamboo boards will be placed on the facades.
The first inhabitants can already take their place in the new building: The bats. More than 40 bat cabinets and bat cabinets will be placed in the façade of the new building (see picture). The picture shows a two-layer bat cabinet.
Meanwhile, there's a lot of hard work. The roofer is ready, the large skylight is placed above the aula stairs, the roof panels are placed on the gymnasiums and the plating of the walls of the gyms is started. For Christmas holidays, the building is windproof and waterproof.
On Wednesday 13 December the highest point is celebrated in the presence of alderman Steenbakkers.
In addition, this week from the construction we got an agreement to have the visitors of group 7&8 and their parents take a look at our new building (under construction) during our Open Day on 27 January.
Work on the new building is planned. On all sides there is hard work to deliver the new building at the end of June 2024.
During the autumn holidays, in the running rain, the main stairs were placed with special equipment.
In the meantime, many windows have been placed with glass and the gymnasiums with the steel construction are starting to take shape.
The celebration of the highest point is Wednesday 13 December in front of our alderman. For Christmas holidays everything is windproof and waterproof.
Our new construction is beginning to take shape. The floors of the second floor have been placed and the steel construction (roof) of the part where there is no floor has been started. The walls of the gymnasiums expect to be able to place them around week 44.
Also you already see the so-called HSB (wood skeleton building) walls, here the window frames will be placed.
In the meantime, the stairs and platforms in the stairwells are also placed to a large extent.
There has been hard work in the past few weeks, partly thanks to the good weather. The floor of the ground floor is ready and the walls of the rooms on the ground floor are already visible.
In mid-September, the stairs and platforms are placed to the first floor and at the end of September the floor of the first and second floor is already there. Then the stairs to the second floor are also placed.
The preparations for the start of the new construction have begun! To celebrate that moment we made photos and videos with all the students on the grounds behind our school. That's where the new school will be. And that's gonna look great!
What a beautiful sunny ☀️moment to form the letters LCL together. It looked fantastic!
