Switching vmbo to havo: your next step

Many students find that Havo fits their ambition well: more challenge, depth in courses and more space to work independently. At the Lorentz Casimir Lyceum we carefully guide this step, with an eye for who you are and what you need. Our school is small-scale and is hidden in the green on the edge of Eindhoven, a place that gives peace and focus if you want to learn and discover. Think of Havo as an exciting new chapter in a book you already know a bit: familiar subjects, but with just more questions and floors. You will receive personal guidance from mentors and lecturers who believe in your capabilities. We work with level differentiation, extra practice moments and study skills so that you not only learn harder but especially smarter. Security and trust are paramount: We ask reflection and response without judging, so you see mistakes as learning steps.

How we guide you

When you consider or have made the switch vmbo to havo, we start with a warm reception. First of all, there is an intake interview with you and your parents, so we get to know your motivation, strengths and learning style well. Then we link you to a permanent mentor who guides you in planning, test preparation and social skills. In concrete terms, we offer additional training courses in core subjects, study skills training and, where necessary, tailor-made work in schedules or guidance. Because our school is small, we see you quickly and personally: teachers have an eye for small signals and can adjust without disappearing into the masses. We also organise intermediate level checks and short summer courses for bridge skills. This helps you to move from a practical vmbo approach to more theoretically oriented habo questions. Together with you, we set short and longer term goals; We celebrate progression and tackle trip blocks together.

Your route to successful havo

The first months on Havo often feel like getting used to, but with the right steps it goes faster than you think. Expect a little faster pace, more homework and assignments that require flooring. Our approach is practical: We start with clear learning goals, weekly feedback and additional catch-up moments when needed. You follow a personal curriculum and get regular conversations with your mentor to keep you in control of subjects and study behaviour. At school we stimulate curiosity: projects, researches and practical assignments that suit your interests and show you what you can do. Because we offer time and space to grow, you can make mistakes without determining your school career. Errors will turn into learning points. Do you want to know if the switch to Havo is for you?
